Families of Faith

Families of Faith

Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;

for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."  Matthew 19:14

Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children in the faith, prayer, and all the virtues. They have the duty to provide as far as possible for the physical and spiritual needs of their children. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2252). Faith formation begins within the family and our parish religious education program is a support for the foundation that is provided with the family in the home. Faith formation is a life long process that includes involvement in the life of the parish. Your active presence at St. Joseph Cathedral strengthens and affirms the whole church community that we are all welcomed into through baptism.

Saint Anthony's Little Ones

This class is for children ages 3-6. The children will learn about the Mass and the faith in a hands-on approach.

St. Peter’s Class

These classes are divided up according to grade level from 4th through 8th grade. They will continue to learn about the Doctrines and Dogmas of the faith, all while continuing to develop their relationship with Jesus Christ. If a child in this age group has not yet received a sacrament, they may attend this class with the goal of receiving it.

Sts. Louis and Zelie’s Parent Catechesis

This class is for the parents as their children receive their own age level catechesis. We will discuss various topics including the challenges of being a Catholic parent in today’s world.

St. Teresa's Sacramental Preparation Class

This class is for 1st and 2nd graders preparing to make their first Confession and 3rd graders preparing for Holy Communion and Confirmation. We will discuss how to live the Catholic faith through the graces of the sacraments.

“Catholic parents must learn to form their family as a domestic church, a church in the home as it were, where God is honored, his law is respected, prayer is a normal event, virtue is transmitted by word and example, and everyone shares the hopes, the problems, and sufferings of everyone else. All this is not to advocate a return to some outdated style of living: It is to return to the roots of human development and human happiness.”                                                                                   ~Saint John Paul II

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

~ Deuteronomy 6:6-7
