Saint Joseph Cathedral is proud of the young men and women who serve in the altar servers' ministry. The altar servers participate in Sunday and Holy Day Masses, Stations of the Cross and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The servers progress through a variety of ranks, from trainees to regular servers to Master of Ceremonies and Senior Master of Ceremonies. There are liturgical ceremonies that accompany each progression. Altar servers at the Cathedral realize that they are to set the standard for servers throughout the diocese. They do this with a sense of humility, knowing that through their example of reverent service, they contribute to the beauty and solemnity of the liturgy which leads the assembly to God. Servers attend several meetings a year to learn the various ceremonies of the Church, while constantly evaluating their service at that of their peers. The Council of Masters of Ceremony gathers seasonally to determine who among the servers should be advanced in the ranks. They also review the major ceremonies, working together to ensure the best possible work of all of the servers.
